Surfing
Surfing is definitely a huge part of Mount Maunganui’s culture. Mount Maunganui beaches attract thousands of surfers here every year, many of whom like the waves so much they decide to live here!
There are many professional instructors here who can take a complete novice and have them standing up and riding a wave within hours!
While you are on holiday at Cosy Corner why not Learn To Surf.
Take a 5 minute drive to the main Mount beach or try the less-crowded waves at Omanu beach (a very short stroll from our holiday park). Check out our location map for distances! Day-to-day, each beach along the coastline can enjoy slightly different conditions and wave sizes. A sandy ocean floor and generally ‘clean’ waves make for safe surfing.
Surflifesaving clubs operate over the summer season at the main Mount Beach, at Omanu Beach and further down the coast at Papamoa Beach (a ten minute drive from Cosy Corner). You may choose to surf here for the safety that the lifesavers offer.
New Zealand’s first artifical reef is just 10 minutes walk from Cosy Corner Holiday Park, making us the closest camp ground to what will be the Mount’s premium surf spot. |
